Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG Yet

The buzz surrounding the recent awards show was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it sparked the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, player agency, and flexible progression—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities that are viable with a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is precisely these elements that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
